The move to free-to-play with limitations and the release of Heart of Thorns keeps raising the question of how to level the fastest in Guild Wars 2. First of all, we would always advise players who play their first character to explore the world in peace and enjoy the game. The fast track to Level 80 is not always the best way to go, and on the track you’ll miss interesting dialogues, exciting stories, and fun tasks. Running through Tyria with open eyes brings the most fun. Nevertheless, we would like to give you 5 tips in this guide to help you level faster.
1.) Explore & play the story
The most successful is also the most obvious way: play your character through the areas and at the same time always take the personal story with you, according to your level. The first history instance starts with level 10. For an optimal start, you go with your newly created character in any starting area and explores this completely (all hearts, vistas, hero points and points of interests) , after that your level should be high enough to experience the first story missions. Then you go to another area, which you fully explore. You should have reached level 22 and then you can re-enter the Personal Story.
Crafting is a nice addition to the first tip and actually always worth it. As a complete newcomer, you will not have enough money to effectively level through it, but you can use the items you acquire while playing to make up for a bit of experience. The cheapest crafting job is the cook, for more detailed guides, check out http://gw2crafts.net/cooking_karma_light.html.
3.) Edge of the mists
A very popular and really effective method is leveling in the edge of the mists, which you can access via the WvW menu. There you join a commander and follows this in the so-called karma train. The goal is to complete as many events as possible and thus earn karma, which also provides experience. You have to have a rough idea of the map and should not give way to the commander. You should also get some buff food for more experience.
If playing PvP, you get rewarded with Tomes of knowledge, which you can click to level up. In PvP you can immediately compete with others and get access to all skills, specializations and equip. A newcomer could therefore go straight into PvP and level their Char. You can also receive the folios automatically via the login rewards. In addition, for some daily PvE achievements (collect, artisan, activity, event, and panorama), there are scriptures of experience, of which 20 are worth a level or can be traded for a folio of knowledge.
Dungeons give you about 70% level progress, in both Story and Exploration mode, regardless of which level the character has. For beginners basically the tip is that you can find players via the LFG tool in the friend list menu on the left side. Normally, people are looking for experienced players. Therefore, give it quietly that you are playing for the first time or that you want to level, usually you can then find friendlier groups.
